CCOI Analyst Ratings
Bulls say
Cogent Comms Hldgs is attractive because it sits on secular internet-traffic growth, carrying over one-fifth of the world’s internet traffic while serving sticky netcentric and corporate customers with mission-critical, high-capacity services. The company is also showing improving fundamentals: wavelength revenue reached $14.8M in the quarter, traffic grew 16% y/y, installed-base pricing fell to $0.11/Mbps from $0.17 a year ago, and IPv4 leasing generated $18M, up 25% y/y. In addition, the path to monetizing datacenters, dark fiber, and IPv4, along with improving sales productivity and a large underpenetrated wavelength opportunity, supports margin expansion, liquidity, and longer-term upside.
Bears say
Cogent Comms Hldgs is facing a softer fundamental backdrop because 2Qfinancial and customer metrics missed expectations, prompting lower revenue and EBITDA estimates for 2026 and 2027. Growth is being constrained by flat on-net ARPU at $513, nearly flat on-net customer connections at 88,013, and rising churn, while off-net revenue fell about 5% q/q on roughly 980 disconnects and 2.3% off-net churn. Although datacenter monetization and debt reduction could help, net leverage remains elevated at 6.8x versus a 4x target, capex was $38.5M, and supply-chain delays plus repeated equipment price increases are pressuring execution and profitability.
