SFNC Analyst Ratings
Bulls say
Simmons First Ntl is viewed positively because management is executing a clear efficiency agenda, including the planned closure of 26 branches across 6 states and continued square-footage reduction, which should lift annual pre-provision net revenue by $37 million to $42 million and support another year of operating leverage. The balance sheet and earnings trends also look constructive, with 2Q26 net interest margin at 3.84%, deposit costs at 1.93%, and a loan repricing tailwind from $1.8 billion of loans below 4% resetting over the next 12 months, while 2Q26 loan yields were 6.15% and the pipeline yield was 6.73%. In addition, tangible book value per share rose 2.8% sequentially to $14.42, common equity Tier 1 remained solid, and share repurchases plus improving loan growth and profitability reinforce the case for sustained earnings growth.
Bears say
Simmons First Ntl is facing a cautious fundamental backdrop because credit metrics weakened as NPLs rose to $165M from $142M, NPAs increased to 0.92% of loans plus OREO, and a single borrower migration drove much of the deterioration despite reserves and lower criticized and classified loans. Deposit balances fell 9% LQA while loans grew only 3% LQA, pushing the loan/deposit ratio to 92% and leaving future profitability more dependent on stronger balance sheet growth after last year’s capital raise and balance sheet restructure. Net interest margin was flat at 3.84%, below expectations, and with NCOs at 0.20% and 1H26 at 0.21%, any further negative credit migration or weak loan and deposit pricing could pressure EPS and valuation.
